D’Andrea N. Foy is the artist and founder behind the namesake brand, D’Andrea Nicole Calligraphy. A proud New Orleans native, she officially launched her business in Fall 2020 after beginning her calligraphy journey more than two years prior. D’Andrea credits the gifts and creativity that guide her work to Jesus Christ, who restored her passion for the arts after years of stepping away from creativity, with no painting, drawing, or even writing.
When she dedicated her life back to Him, He used the encouragement of her colleague, Jacqueline Simon, who once remarked, “You have such beautiful handwriting, you should try calligraphy.” Inspired by that simple statement, D’Andrea began researching and teaching herself calligraphy techniques, unknowingly setting the foundation for what would later become her business.
With a genuine love for embodying the spirit of New Orleans, from jazz music drifting through the city to quiet strolls down Magazine Street and the historic French Quarter, there is truly no place like home. This deep appreciation for culture, hospitality, and artistic expression, paired with her lifelong love for drawing and fashion, ultimately led to the creation of D’Andrea Nicole Calligraphy.
After years of encouragement from family and friends to share her gifts more broadly, the foundation of the brand was formed in March 2018 during a meeting with a client at a coffee shop on Prytania Street in the historic Garden District of New Orleans.
“I like to mark that moment as the birthplace of my brand because it was my first meeting with a client and my first envelope addressing experience, even before picking up a nib and ink. That client found me through a colleague’s recommendation and trusted me to be a part of her daughter’s wedding day. This humble beginning strengthened my confidence in both myself and my handwriting and ultimately led me to pursue my passion professionally.”
D’Andrea received a Bachelor of Science in Fashion Merchandising from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2011. During her time there, she refined her eye for design while deepening her appreciation for visual arts, fashion history, jazz culture, and the rich creative heritage of Louisiana. Still, her love for lettering began long before college. She has been doodling and experimenting with writing and gel pens since her elementary school days.
Today, D’Andrea Nicole Calligraphy is dedicated to elevating life’s most meaningful celebrations through the timeless art of custom calligraphy, thoughtfully infused with the elegance and spirit of New Orleans. She has since worked with many brands she could have only dreamed of and continues to elevate her abilities.
She approaches each project with the belief that creativity is a gift from God and an opportunity to serve others through beauty and meaningful detail.
